Just taking a few moments to gaze at one of Leah Unell's Painting Meditations can have significant health benefits. Based on the ancient Indian practice of Trāṭaka meditation (staring gently at an object for a period of time), Leah has created transformative pieces designed to guide the viewer through each visual space. Gradual, undulations in color and texture draw the viewer through a meditative experience that allows the mind to rest, relax, and contemplate peacefully. By giving the optic nerve this respite, a viewer can experience the benefits of a lowered heart rate, relaxation of the eye muscles, and a release of serotonin and oxytocin.
